Haf - a hat

Knitted measurements:

Medium (for woman and man)

Gauge:

10 cm are 17 rounds

Material:  

Yarn that fits the gauge, 50 g dark blue and 50 g light blue. I used Hubro from Dalegarn

Circular needles size 8mm or size to obtain gauge

Cable needle, tapestry needle

This hat is worked from the lower edge and up. It´s knitted on circular needle so there are no sewing except to sew in the ends.

Cast on 68 sts. with the darker color and join in a round, be careful not to twist sts. Knit rib pattern, *k2, p2; repeat from * to end. Knit until piece measures 7 cm.

Switch to the lighter color and knit one round. Increase one stich at the end of the row (69 stitches on needle).

Now knit the pattern according to the chart (munstur 1 or munstur 2). Note however that the round ends up in a 1 purled sts.

In the third round you have to increase one sts. at the end of the row (70 stitches on needle).

You can choose between two different cable patterns.

In “munstur 1” the cables turns in the opposite direction (pattern 1)

In “munstur 2” the cables turns in the same direction (pattern 2).

Knit until the piece measures 19 cm. Then knit the knit stitches two together the whole round, 63 stitches are on the needle.

After knitting 22 cm all the purl stitches are knit two together the whole round, 49 stitches on the needle.

When piece measures 26 cm knit two stitches together the whole round.
After that you cut a long tail an pull the strand through the remaining loops.

Finishing:

Turn the hat inside out. Bind of all lose ends.

Create a pompom and sewed on the top of  the hat.

is something I am always stressed to do. On youtube I found those found these fine instructions how to do it with Eunny Jang from Knitting Daily TV. I have used the sewing machine method but will I will definitely try the crochet method. It looks neat when finihsed. You can find the link here.

Sweater knitting

Now I am well on the way to finish two sweaters. The first one is for me.

Yesterday I had to undo 11 rounds that I had knitted because I used wrong color in the pattern. Because of those mistake the pattern was all wrong. The sweater is knitted on needles no. 3 and 336 loops on the needle so I was almost with tears in my eyes when I was undoing my knitting.

The other sweater is for a 18-month baby and my aunt will get it. It's been a lot of thinking while I was knitting it since I wrote the pattern on the knittingway. I will share this pattern on Yarn fever as soon as I have finished writing it.

The colors are very pretty together and will it be a nice summer-sweater, especially because it is made of cotton yarn.

January sweater

January 31. I finished knitting and sewed in the ends of the sweater I decided to knit in January. The plan went as I wanted.

The sweater is from Knittingmagazine Yr. no 53 and is designed by an Icelandic designer, Svanhvit Kristjánsdóttir.

The pattern is well written and I found it easy to follow. The sweater should have pocket on it but I decided to drop them.

     It was great idea to blend together the  two yarn types from Sandnes yarn. The yarn I used for the sweater was kitten mohair and SISU  and the colors blended perfectly.

On February 1.  I went with my son to a yarn store to buy some buttons for the sweater. We decided to have them white with some gray tones so they would not be quite as noticeable.

Shawl

This fall I started knitting a mystery shawl that is called Color Craving and is designed by Stephen West who designs under the name Westknits.

The beginning was special and impossible to imagine how the shawl would look when it would be finished.

But it was fun to knit. I used Icelandic yarn named Einband and the colors I chose were dark brown, turquoise and orange. I actually decided to go outside my color box and use colors that I'm not accustomed to using and never together but the result were very satisfying. 

But now I am casting off and almost done with it. It takes several hours to finish it because there are so many knitting stitches to cast of and of course this shawl has not an ordinary cast of but one that is with a pattern so I will take me looong time to finish it of. 

And then there is my January sweater. There is not much left of it. The plan is to finish the shawl and then finish the sweater. It should be done later this week.

Sweaters

It goes well with a sweater I'm knitting for DTH (my son). But I know that I can not finish it in two weeks as I had intended.

The sweater is nice to knit and the pattern well written. I used the same colors and are used in the pattern and they look great.

The reason why I am so slow to knit the sweater is that I'm knitting another sweater and it is for me.

 It is knitted on needles no. 3 mm(us 2,5) and from Sandnes yarn. I've been knitting it while watching the TV and it's fine because I've been knitting round and round and it will become pretty monotonous.

But now it´s  time to knitting a massive pattern and it will not be done watching the TV. But it  will be fun and I meanit,  really.

New project

in a new year.

My boy came to me the other day and asked me to knit a sweater for him. Who can say no to such request? Not me.

We picked sweater from Icelandic knitting magazine and the picture of it is here above. The designer is Icelandic and has done a fantastic job on this sweater. Icing on the cake is that my cousin is the model in the picture.

So to the shop I stormed today and bought the yarn for the sweater and started knitting it tonight. My son asked if it would take me few months to knit it (as is all to common with me because I always have too much knitting going on at once) and I, with out thinking, told him that I could be like 2 weeks to knit it. Yup!
